Eligibility is based on completion of: Master degree, Diploma, Board certification or Fellowship in pediatrics approved by the Supreme Council of Universities or Ministry of Health and Population
By the end of the program, candidates should be able to :
•Outline the etiology, pathophysiology, clinical features and management of the most common and important disorders presenting as pediatric emergencies or critical conditions
•Explain the concepts and practice of system interaction, system failure and system support in pediatric critical care
•Recognize infants and children presenting with emergency and/or critical conditions and initiate appropriate management actions
•Assess and monitor patients for respiratory, circulatory, neurological, metabolic and hematological dysfunction or failure
•Select, use and interpret diagnostic tests needed in pediatric emergency and critical care
•Provide appropriate supportive management and important specific management for critically ill children
•Perform commonly used procedures in pediatric emergency and critical care
•Follow appropriate ethical and professional standards of practice
•Communicate effectively and work as a team member
•Demonstrate appropriate commitment and capability for ongoing self-learning and professional development
Diploma structure : Total hours = 1562 hours through 24 months duration divided as follows
1.Teaching sessions: (122 hours) along the first year divided into 3 modules of 4 months duration each
There will be 122 hours both online and live scheduled teaching hours in addition to workshops over a one year period
O Online sessions are conducted on the assigned platform (zoom meetings)
O Live sessions are conducted at GOTHI training center
o 9 workshops: conducted at GOTHI training center
Handouts and flip classrooms pre-work preparations are sent by the lecturers on the assigned media (whatsapp group) each according to the prepared educational material
At the end of each session the candidates are given oral questions for checking understanding. In addition, after each module an assessment exam (40 questions ) , MCQ -Best of five , osce and ospe is done and is scored equally in the 3 modules (40 marks each for total 120 marks)
2.On the Job Training: ( 36 hours per week along the second year for 10 months in addition to one month off for rest and exam preparation through the 2nd year ) total of 1440 hours
o4 M : basic foundation training in PICU (Training in GOTHI general Education hospitals approved pediatric critical care units )
o4 M : basic foundation training PICU (Training in different Universities hospitals approved pediatric critical care units )
-2M : Special Intensive Care Units (National Institute for Diabetes and Endocrinology , National Institute for Cardiology )
-Candidates are expected to spend 10 months of on-the job training in approved pediatric critical care units
-The expected weekly work load is 36 hrs including participation in unit rounds and shifts
-competency in the required skills must be achieved and documented by the PICU assigned supervisors
-Satisfactory completion of on-the job training; including attendance, participation in unit activities, satisfactory performance and acquisition of required skills (listed in the logbook) must be documented
3. Assessment:
-Formative assessment: monitoring of continuous training
3.1 During the first year, at the end of each session the candidates are given oral questions for checking understanding.
3.2 During the on-the -job training: competency in the required skills must be achieved and documented by the PICU assigned supervisors
3.3 Satisfactory completion of on-the job training; including attendance, participation in unit activities, satisfactory performance and acquisition of required skills (listed in the logbook) must be documented
-Summative assessment:
3.4 After each one of the 3 modules there is an assessment exam
3.5 Total marks = 120 Marks Divided equally on each of the 3 modules (40 marks each)
3.6 Consisting of Course based questions,
•Written exam : MCQ , OSCE, Best of five , OSPE, Case discussion
•Oral and practical exam : case- based scenarios assessment and use of devices
