prof. Mohamed Lotayef, The Executive president of the Egyptian Health Council, participated in the discussion session organized by the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control entitled “Raising the efficiency of medical personnel... towards safer health care” to review the role of quality standards in enhancing confidence in the health system. The session was moderated by Prof. Ahmed Taha, Chairman of the General Authority for Health Accreditation and Control.

His Excellency spoke about the necessity of unifying training standards among the various health sectors as a top priority to ensure the quality of health care, stressing that the presence of certified trainers and strong training programs is a basis for building highly efficient and qualified health cadres to keep pace with the requirements of the new system, stressing the importance of the two axes of quality and training in raising the efficiency of workers in the health sector.

Ali stressed that a fair and safe work environment is the starting point for reforming the health system in Egypt.

An elite group of health sector leaders and international experts participated in the dialogue to discuss best international practices and experiences. They are: Dr. Leslie Thompson, CEO of Accreditation Canada and the Health Standards Organization (HSO), Dr. Omar Sharif Omar, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of University Hospitals, Dr. Maher Fawzy, Professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care and Chairman of the Scientific Research Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Medicine - Cairo University, Dr. Mihi Al-Tahyoui, Member of the Board of Directors of the Health Accreditation and Regulatory Authority, Ayman Abbas, Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors of Al-Nas Hospital.

In a strategic step to enhance the efficiency of the health system and develop the skills of doctors, the General Syndicate of Egyptian Physicians announced the opening of the Continuing Medical Education Center (SCOPE) in its new and advanced headquarters, after obtaining official accreditation from the Egyptian Health Council.
