His Excellency the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Gohar Nabil, received a delegation from the Egyptian Health Council headed by Prof. Mohamed Mostafa Lotayef- President of the Egyptian Health Council, and in the presence of:
Prof. Sameh Shaheen - Professor of Cardiology - Faculty of Medicine - Ain Shams University and Chairman of the Scientific Council for Sports Medicine of the Egyptian Board.
Advisor/Mohamed Al-Manisy - Legal Advisor to the Egyptian Health Council.
Prof.Khaled Abdel Karim - General Supervisor of the work of the higher scientific committees and scientific councils of the Egyptian Board.
Prof. Reem Emad - General Supervisor of the Egyptian Board’s training process.
Dr. Abdel Salam Shalabi - Director General of the General Administration of the Human Medicine Unit and Supervisor of the Internal Audit and Governance Department.
The goal of the expanded meeting was to study aspects of joint cooperation between the Egyptian Health Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports within the framework of supporting the sports medicine system in Egypt through the creation of the first Egyptian professional board for sports medicine in the Egyptian Health Council to raise the level of medical services for athletes in accordance with international standards to achieve the requirements for medical qualification for athletes and enhance the capabilities of sports medicine units and hospitals. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Latif provided a brief explanation of the role of the Egyptian Health Council in supporting and developing the Egyptian health system and the training it provides for doctors. The Egyptian Board and the creation of new specializations required by the labor market to achieve better opportunities for young doctors. His Excellency indicated that the creation of the sports medicine specialization came to achieve integration in the health process and that cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports is the way to create opportunities for practical training and real living in sports federations, stadiums and sports competitions.
His Excellency the Minister of Youth and Sports emphasized the Ministry’s great interest in developing the sports medicine system as a basic pillar for preserving the health and safety of athletes and raising levels of sports performance. His Excellency pointed out the necessity of moving from exchanging visions and proposals to implementing practical steps that contribute to achieving real and sustainable development in the sports medicine system to preparing and graduating doctors specialized in this field, according to the needs of the labor market, considering that this is considered a direct investment in the future of Egyptian sports and health. Athletes.
Pro. Sameh Shaheen presented a summary of the training program for the new board and the extent of its benefit to the various youth and sports units and bodies in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Youth and Sports:
Prof. Hazem Khamis - Professor of Cardiology and President of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization.
Dr. Muhammad Al-Kurdi - Head of the Sports Sector.
Dr. Wafa Mousa - Head of the Central Administration for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Saeed Hasballah - General Director of Sports Psychology and Public Health Programs.
Dr. Ahmed Mahfouz - Director General of Medical Affairs.
Dr. Hazem Khamis, Professor of Cardiology and President of the Egyptian Anti-Doping Organization, confirmed that the new board came in response to an urgent local and regional need for the presence of a qualified doctor to deal with the multiple medical needs of athletes, and that the presence of this specialty will contribute to achieving safe medical service for all sports practitioners in Egypt.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to prepare a protocol for cooperation in the previously mentioned areas to achieve mutual benefit.
